 Jane – Sponsored Guatemala Trek

On the 27th March 2010 Jane is off to Guatemala to prepare for a 150km volcano trek to help raise funds to build a school for the Guatemalan children with the charity Study Guatemala.

Many of the children in Guatemala finish their education at 11 and are out on the streets.  Many are abused and if asked, many say that all they want is an education.  They want to go to school as it is their only chance of getting out of their situation.  An education means they come out of school with a diploma – and sadly, going to school makes them feel safe as many are abused at home.

The challenge will take walkers along the ancient Maya trading routes and past many of Guatemala’s 33 volcanoes and ends at Lake Atitlan with the ascent of San Pedro.

Much of the walking and climbing is at altitude so it is essential all walkers are fit and healthy.  Jane has been training hard over the past few months to ensure she is as fit as possible before this ‘mammoth’ task.

Jane’s target is to raise £5000 for Study Guatemala.  If you would like to donate go to www.justgiving.com and search for Jane Connolly’s Volcano Trek.

Ante-Natal & Post-Natal Pilates Classes

Pilates exercises can be easily modified and adapted to suit pregnant or post-natal ladies. The exercise classes provide many benefits.

In the ante-natal period there is pre-conditioning of the pelvic floor muscles and improved endurance for labour with improved circulation and maintenance of flexibility. Ladies must be at least 13 weeks into their pregnancy and must have no complications which would contradict this type of exercise. The GP must be in agreement with commencing these classes.

In the post-natal period, rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and bone density is maintained and a sense of well-being is enhanced. Relaxation techniques are also included. Exercise can commence as soon as it is medically safe.

For all classes an initial one-to-one session is essential and this is followed by a beginners course. Class numbers are small, ensuring close supervision.
